Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use
A1 Vocabulary for Goethe Exam, package name
com.ashkan.germana1vocabulary (the “App”).
The App is an independent learning application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the Goethe-Institut.
1. Developer and Data Controller
Postal address: 44795 Bochum, Germany
Email: ashkan.khodayarkhani@gmail.com
The legal name above must match the developer or legal entity identified in the App's Google Play listing.
2. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Android version of the App. If a web or Progressive Web App version is made publicly available, its hosting provider, server logs, cookies, and other web-specific technologies must be described in an updated version of this policy.
3. Privacy Summary
- The App does not require an account.
- The App does not ask for your name, telephone number, contacts, camera, microphone, or precise location.
- Learning progress and preferences are stored primarily on your device.
- The developer does not operate servers for storing your learning progress.
- The Android App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements.
- The App uses Google's consent platform where privacy choices are required.
- The App may use the text-to-speech service selected on your device.
- The App allows you to create and restore backup files.
- Android may include some App data in a system backup or device transfer.
4. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores learning-related information locally, including:
- words and lessons you have viewed;
- learning, repetition, and completion status;
- completed quizzes;
- bookmarked words;
- the current lesson and study position;
- App language, theme, and display preferences;
- pronunciation and autoplay preferences;
- flashcard settings; and
- word-widget information.
The developer does not intentionally transmit your individual learning progress, bookmarks, or quiz results to developer-controlled servers.
Local information may leave the device only when:
- Android includes it in an operating-system backup or device transfer;
- you create a backup and save it to local or cloud storage;
- you share an exported backup file; or
- a device service selected by you processes the information.
5. Backup and Restore Files
The App allows you to export learning progress and preferences as a JSON backup file. Android lets you choose where that file is stored. The selected location may be local device storage or a third-party provider such as Google Drive. The developer does not receive or control the exported file.
Backup files may include:
- learning and repetition progress;
- bookmarks and quiz status;
- language and theme settings;
- display preferences; and
- pronunciation preferences.
Backup files are not separately encrypted by the App. Anyone who obtains a backup file may be able to read it. You are responsible for protecting, sharing, retaining, and deleting your backup files.
When you restore a backup, the App reads the file you select and stores its supported contents locally. The file is not intentionally uploaded to the developer. A cloud-storage provider processes files under its own privacy policy and terms.
6. Android System Backup and Device Transfer
The Android App currently permits operating-system backup. Depending on your Android version, device manufacturer, Google Account, and backup settings, Android may back up some App data to private cloud backup storage, restore it after reinstallation, or transfer it to another device.
These operations are controlled by Android, Google, the device manufacturer, or the selected backup provider—not by the developer. Uninstalling the App may not immediately delete copies retained by an operating-system backup.
For more information, review Android's Auto Backup documentation and the Google Privacy Policy.
7. Advertising and Google AdMob
The Android App uses Google AdMob and the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display advertisements. The current App configuration requests non-personalized ads. Non-personalized or limited ads may still require data processing for ad delivery, measurement, frequency control, security, and fraud prevention.
Google states that its Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect or share:
- Internet Protocol addresses, which may be used to estimate general location;
- Android Advertising ID, App Set ID, and other device or account-related identifiers where available;
- App and advertisement interactions such as launches, taps, impressions, and video views;
- device, operating-system, browser, language, network, date, and time information;
- diagnostic and performance information, including crashes, hangs, launch time, and energy usage; and
- advertising consent and privacy-choice signals.
Google and participating advertising providers may process this information to:
- serve contextual, non-personalized, limited, or legally permitted personalized ads;
- measure ad delivery and performance;
- provide aggregated advertising reports;
- control how often ads are displayed;
- detect invalid traffic, abuse, security threats, and fraud; and
- comply with legal obligations.
The developer may receive aggregated reports such as ad impressions, performance, and advertising revenue. The developer does not receive your raw Advertising ID or individual learning history through the standard AdMob reporting interface.
For more information, review:
- Google Privacy Policy
- How Google uses information from apps that use its services
- Google advertising technologies
- Google Mobile Ads data disclosure
8. Advertising Consent and Privacy Choices
Where required, the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform to present a consent or privacy message. Depending on your location, choices, and applicable law, you may be able to accept or reject advertising purposes, select providers, change an earlier decision, or receive non-personalized or limited ads.
Where the option is available, advertising choices can be reviewed through App Settings → Privacy → Manage ad consent.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that lawfully occurred before withdrawal. Refusing consent may prevent some advertisements from being shown, but it should not prevent access to the App's main learning functionality. You may also reset or delete your Android Advertising ID through your device's privacy or advertising settings.
9. Text-to-Speech and Pronunciation
Most pronunciation audio is provided from resources included with the App. If local audio is unavailable, the App may send the selected German word or example sentence to the text-to-speech engine installed or selected on your device.
A text-to-speech engine may operate locally or use an online service. Whether text is transmitted outside the device depends on the engine, voice, provider, and device settings. The provider's privacy policy applies to its processing. The App does not request microphone access and does not record your voice.
10. Contact and Support Communications
If you contact the developer, the following information may be processed:
- your email address and displayed name;
- the contents of your message;
- attachments or screenshots you voluntarily provide;
- technical information you include; and
- correspondence needed to respond to your request.
Support correspondence is used to answer questions, investigate problems, secure and improve the App, and establish or defend legal claims. Email may be processed by the developer's email provider, currently Google/Gmail.
Do not send passwords, identity documents, financial information, health data, or other unnecessary sensitive information. Support correspondence is normally deleted within 24 months after the matter is resolved unless longer retention is required for legal obligations, security, fraud prevention, or legal claims.
11. Permissions and Device Access
- Internet: used for AdMob, consent messages, external privacy links, and online services selected by the device.
- Receive boot completed: used to restore or schedule word-widget functionality after the device restarts.
- System file picker: used only when you choose to create or restore a backup.
- Local storage: used for progress, preferences, cached resources, and offline operation.
- Text-to-speech: used when a pronunciation fallback is required.
The current App does not request broad file-system access, contacts, camera, microphone, or precise-location permissions.
12. Purposes and Legal Bases
Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply, information is processed under the following legal bases where appropriate.
Providing requested functionality
Local storage, backup and restore, pronunciation, and user-selected preferences are used to provide features requested by you. Processing is based on providing the requested service or the legitimate interest in operating the App.
Advertising
Where legally required, advertising storage, identifiers, and related personal data are processed on the basis of consent. Where the law permits specific non-personalized, limited, security, or fraud-prevention processing without consent, Google or the relevant provider may rely on another legal basis disclosed in the consent interface or its privacy notice.
Support
Support communications are processed to respond to your request and based on providing requested support or the legitimate interest in maintaining and securing the App.
Legal obligations and claims
Information may be processed when necessary to comply with a legal obligation or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
13. Sharing and Disclosure
The developer does not sell your learning progress or intentionally provide it to advertising providers. Information may nevertheless be processed or disclosed to:
- Google, Google AdMob, and participating advertising technology providers;
- Google's User Messaging Platform for consent management;
- your selected Android backup, cloud-storage, or device-transfer provider;
- your selected text-to-speech provider;
- the developer's email provider when you contact support;
- professional advisers where necessary;
- courts, regulators, or law-enforcement authorities where legally required; or
- a successor operator if the App or related business is transferred, subject to applicable law.
The developer does not rent personal information or sell it for monetary payment. Some jurisdictions may legally define advertising-related disclosures as “sharing,” “targeted advertising,” or a “sale” even when no money is paid for the information. Where applicable, available privacy controls and statutory opt-out rights will be honored.
14. International Data Transfers
Google, advertising providers, email providers, cloud-storage providers, and text-to-speech providers may process information outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area.
Where required, the responsible provider must use an approved transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision, an applicable data privacy framework, Standard Contractual Clauses, or another lawful safeguard. Consult the relevant provider's privacy notice for details.
15. Data Retention and Deletion
Local App data
Learning progress and preferences remain on the device until you reset relevant information in the App, clear the App's storage through Android settings, or uninstall the App. Resetting progress may not remove every preference, exported backup, advertising-consent record, or Android system backup.
Manual backup files
Exported backup files remain where you saved them until you delete them. The developer cannot delete files stored on your device or personal cloud account.
Android system backups
Android or the selected backup provider determines how long system backups are retained. Uninstalling the App may not immediately delete those backups.
Advertising information
Google and participating advertising providers determine their own retention periods. Review their privacy notices for details.
Support correspondence
Support correspondence is normally retained for no more than 24 months after resolution, subject to legal, security, and dispute-related exceptions.
16. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- receive information about personal-data processing;
- request access to personal information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- request deletion;
- restrict or object to processing;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time;
- opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising where applicable;
- receive equal service without discrimination for exercising a privacy right; and
- complain to a competent data-protection authority.
Because the developer does not receive your locally stored learning records, the developer normally cannot identify, access, or delete those records remotely. You can manage them through the App, Android settings, your backup provider, or by deleting exported files.
To exercise a right concerning developer-controlled information, email ashkan.khodayarkhani@gmail.com. Identity verification may be required before a request is completed.
Users in the European Economic Area may complain to the data-protection authority in the country of their residence, workplace, or the alleged infringement, or to the authority responsible for the developer.
17. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 16 and older and is not designed or marketed as a child-directed service. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Users under 16 should not use the advertising-supported App unless it has been specifically configured for their age group and any authorization required by local law has been provided by a parent or legal guardian.
If the App's Google Play target audience includes children or users below the applicable age of consent, the App, SDK settings, advertisements, store listing, and this policy must be changed to comply with applicable children's privacy and Google Play Families requirements.
If you believe information relating to a child has been processed improperly, contact the developer using the email address below.
18. Data Security
The App uses Android's application sandbox and local storage. Google states that information transmitted by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS. Nevertheless:
- exported JSON backup files are not separately encrypted by the App;
- cloud-backup security depends on Android and the selected provider;
- text-to-speech security depends on the selected engine; and
- no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Keep your device protected, install security updates, and do not share backup files with untrusted persons.
19. Automated Processing
The App does not use your learning progress to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Advertising providers may use automated systems to select, deliver, limit, and measure advertisements and to detect fraud. These decisions do not determine access to the App's primary learning functionality.
20. Third-Party Advertisements and Links
Advertisements and external links may open third-party websites, apps, or store pages. The developer does not control their content, permissions, security, or privacy practices. Review a third party's privacy policy before providing it with information.
21. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when the App, its SDKs, advertising practices, legal requirements, or data-handling practices change. The revised version will be published at this URL, and the “Last updated” date will identify the latest revision.
Where legally required, material changes will be communicated through the App or store listing, and new consent will be requested before processing begins under a materially different consent-based purpose.
